Unified RERA Portal Launched to Boost Transparency in Real Estate
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has introduced a Unified RERA Portal to bring greater transparency and streamline the real estate sector across India. Announced during the fifth meeting of the Central Advisory Council (CAC) in New Delhi, the platform is designed to integrate State RERA systems and provide a single-window access for information. This initiative marks another step in strengthening the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, which has already transformed the sector over the last eight years.
The meeting was chaired by Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, with participation from State RERA Chairpersons, central and state officials, industry representatives, and homebuyer associations. Discussions highlighted the progress made under RERA, including mandatory project registration, stricter disclosures, and a structured grievance redressal mechanism. Minister of State Tokhan Sahu emphasized that while RERA has improved accountability, faster resolution of complaints and revival of stalled projects remain top priorities to ensure buyer confidence.

During the session, it was noted that 35 States and Union Territories have operational RERA authorities, 29 have established appellate tribunals, and 27 have appointed adjudicating officers. Till date, over 1.51 lakh projects and 1.06 lakh real estate agents are registered, and nearly 1.47 lakh complaints have been addressed by RERA authorities. These figures reflect the growing reliance of homebuyers on the regulatory mechanism to safeguard their interests.
A key focus of the council was the problem of stalled projects. The members reviewed recommendations from the committee headed by G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, which Uttar Pradesh has already implemented. Suggestions included creating standard operating procedures for enforcing RERA orders, establishing frameworks for completing legacy projects, and ensuring uniform practices across States. The new portal is expected to provide a national project database and use digital tools for predictive analysis of delays and risks.
Looking ahead, the council underlined the need for next-generation reforms in real estate regulation. Concerns around delays in project registration, withdrawal of funds, and compliance with quarterly reporting by developers were discussed. It was proposed that the Ministry form a stakeholder committee to review rules and improve consistency in processes. Strengthening RERA further, the council concluded, will be critical for building trust, supporting homebuyers, and driving sustainable growth in India’s real estate sector.
