Meghalaya Launches Real Estate Regulatory Authority to Streamline Property Sector
The Meghalaya government has formally launched its Real Estate Regulatory Authority under the RERA Act, 2016, to bring transparency and structure to the growing real estate sector. This statutory body, led by a full-time chairman and two members, will handle project registrations, monitor developers and agents, and enforce compliance. The authority also includes a dispute resolution mechanism to address consumer grievances efficiently.
All stakeholders have been directed to register their projects and entities, with non-compliance subject to penalties. This move is expected to strengthen buyer confidence and bring discipline to the real estate landscape in the state.
