MUMBAI: A section of Metro Line 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) running through Unnat Nagar in Bhiwandi will be taken underground so that 735 buildings don’t have to be touched, said state urban development minister Eknath Shinde, adding that this would increase the cost by an additional Rs 400 crore. The project is currently estimated at Rs 8,417 crore. The issue was raised by Bhiwandi Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh on Tuesday. He demanded adequate compensation for commercial shops. Shinde said those displaced would be provided housing under the MMRDA rental housing scheme, while affected shop owners, too, would get 225 sq ft shops. In case of Metro Line 4 (Thane-Wadala) and Metro Line 9 (Dahisar-Mira-Bhayandar) , Shinde assured land acquisition would be done through consensus Source: ET Realty
